My husband and I are excited about our river boat cruise down the Danube this fall with 3 days in both Prague and Budapest.  I have made the mistake of overpacking many times and vowed never again! I vividly recall trying to hop on a train with a large, heavy suitcase in Italy.  Also, on ocean lines I thought I would dress up for dinner, but after touring all day, there just wasn’t time and more casual attire is acceptable now.

I’ve really thought about the 10 mix and match pieces that will give me enough outfits for 2 weeks. These items will be in my carry on:

A jean dark charcoal or navy pair of jeans
A long pair of black pants
A multi-colored skirt

Tops
A blazer
A shell/tank top
A white blouse
A solid colored top
A sweater

Other Pieces
A basic dress
A rain jacket with a hood

My next consideration is shoes. I used to tote a separate bag just for them; a pair for each outfit. Now I’m following the celebrity trend of wearing black leather sneakers that are fashionable and comfortable for walking all day. I’ll include one dressier wedge heel for evening. Of course, I’ll have some undies that can be rinsed daily, a night gown with travel robe and toiletries.

Last, are my accessories that will give each basic outfit a different look:
Scarves! Packable and very light, scarves are total outfit multipliers
2 necklaces- a statement piece and one basic for everyday
2 pairs of earring- one pair of basic hoops and a bolder pair for a more dramatic look
A basic belt

From just these 10 pieces I have created over 20 different looks!  My husband ordered me an anti – theft cross body bag with lots of compartments that is perfect for travel.  We are both pleased with the prospect of just one carry-on each!
