As we begin the New Year, resolutions are often made to create life changes. Often these resolutions are unrealistic, therefore are broken shortly afterwards, leading to a feeling of failure. This year, I want to help you turn this around! I always recommend these 10 easy suggestions that will uplift your image and your life.
1.Create a vision – Visualization is a powerful tool to achieve great success in life. The use of a vision board has been scientifically proven to increase the activity of visualization. By focusing on the pictures of the things that we want, we begin imagining the achievements, the enjoyment and fulfillment we get from them. Also, self-image and self-confidence are boosted, increasing the chances for success. A study shows that 1 in 5 small business owner’s using vision boards, 76% reported that their business is where they envisioned it. I already enrolled in a class to create a digital vision board on January 20th. You are welcome to join me. Here is the link to the workshop https://bit.ly/Digitalvision
2.Develop an attitude of gratitude – The best way to reach contentment is feel grateful for what we already have. Studies show that if we express gratitude, our happiness increases by 25%. The new year is the perfect time to count our blessings—all the things that might be overlooked, forgotten or taken for granted. Make a list of the many things we’re grateful for—the people, places and things that make your life rich and full, that brings you comfort and joy. I’m creating a gratitude jar for 2020 by writing and adding one thing I’m grateful for each day; then on New Year’s Day 2021 I’m going to read each one and reflect on all the wonderful happenings in 2020.
3.Get moving your way- People of all types, shapes, sizes, and abilities can benefit from being physically active. Select an activity you like, one that fits into your life, and find the three 10-minute intervals of time that work best for you. Anything you do that increases the need for oxygen in your body adds physical activity to your day. It may not seem like taking the stairs or parking far away would make a big difference, but adding little spurts of physical activity, such as taking the stairs or parking further away, burns additional calories and improves your health. Adding more movement stimulates your mind, keeps you healthy, improves your self-image and maintains your youthful appearance!
4.Consume more water– Water composes 60% of our body and 90% of our blood. Water is important to maintain these bodily fluids: digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and body temperature. The consumption of water boosts healthy skin and beauty. With dehydration, the skin can become more vulnerable to skin disorders and premature wrinkling. Eight 8 oz. glasses are usually recommended, but there is no universally agreed quantity of water that must be consumed daily. A friend suggested drinking a glass of water while you’re waiting for your coffee to brew. Also, adding a slice of lemon or lime may entice you to drink more H2O.
5.Reduce refined sugar– Reducing the intake of added sugar racks up some amazing health benefits. The one that really astounded me was younger looking skin. High sugar levels hinder the repair of your skin’s collagen, the protein that keeps it looking plump. A diet full of treats can lead to reduced elasticity and premature wrinkles. Also, research suggests that slashing sugar intake can lessen sagging and other visible signs of aging. Cutting back sugar to 8% of daily consumption scores huge health benefits: reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease, abdominal fat, and extra pounds while gaining more sustainable energy and a younger look!
6.Eat more fresh fruits and veggies-Vegetables and fruits are an important part of a healthy diet. A wide variety is as important as quantity, because no single fruit or vegetable supplies all the nutrients for good health. A diet packed with vegetables and fruits impacts health by: lowering blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke, preventing some types of cancer, lowering the risk of eye and digestive problems, and having a positive effect upon blood sugar, which helps keep appetite in check. Good health is the foundation for an awesome self-image and a joyful life!
7.Admire your attire– Wear what flatters your unique body type; fashions that make you look and feel fabulous! Develop a signature style that reflects your true self, your personal brand. Fashion comes and goes; style stays consistent with your essence. In the words of Edith Head, an 8-time Oscar winner, “You can have anything you want in life, if you dress for it.” Consider hiring an image consultant; you’re worth the investment! 8.Try new things- Trying new things means being open to experience something different, not necessarily daring! It can be as simple as ordering something new from a menu. There are so many reasons to break up the routine in life:
- Encourages self-discovery – including likes and dislikes
- Promotes personal growth – new ideas and topics for conversation
- Enhances overall satisfaction – alleviates boredom
- Boosts overall confidence level – knowledgeable about what life has to offer
- Expands one’s perspective about life- look forward to what happens next
9. Conquer the closet chaos- Most women don’t realize the mood and outcome of the day is set in your closet with your choice of what to wear. 10. Carve out ME time – Self-care is an important component to enhancing your image and living a fulfilling life. Take time for yourself to relax and recharge by resting, meditating, reading or engaging in whatever activity makes you happy! Take time to get a mani-pedi, soak in a bubble bath, get your hair done or enjoy lunch with a girlfriend. You’ll feel refreshed and be ready for new adventures or challenges!
These 10 suggestions will give you more confidence, energy and motivation, and the best part is that you can start implementing some of these suggestions right away! Begin by trying one at a time and take small steps to achieve your goal and enhance your image and life. I highly recommend starting with your vision. I created a vision board the old fashion way with cut- out pictures and glue a few years ago and everything unfolded throughout the year; my vision became my reality! Next, choose an area that you feel sure you can easily implement and improve such as water intake; just drink one more glass daily. Tackling one area a month is worth a go! In 10 months, you’ll be projecting you best self while living life to its fullest!
