It’s February- let’s break out hearts, flowers, and all shades of red! It’s time to shine the spotlight on you, projecting your best self in the outfits you love. Regardless of your relationship status, there’s many opportunities to look and feel fabulous in your fashions. I’ve compiled a list of places in Atlanta that are probably applicable to most cities:
Super Bowl event or party – For the first time in the 54-year history of the Super Bowl, red is the primary color for Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. Both teams have played and won their two postseason games in their own red jerseys, but that won’t happen this Sunday. For this Super Bowl, Chiefs got their choice of jerseys; The Chiefs will be in red jerseys and white pants, while the 49ers will be in white jerseys and gold pants. Ladies, if you’re Kansas City fans wear your red to show support; 49er’s fans sparkle in gold and white. Touchdowns and field goals are great for sharing hugs and kisses!
Symphony- Love is in the air with romantic music on February 14th! Atlanta Symphony Hall will feature Tony Bennett; the 19-time Grammy Award Winning musician spans over six decades, and his daughter, Antonia, on Valentine’s Day. From ASO: “At 93, Tony proves that age is just a number and has no plans of slowing down! 2020 marks the 70th Anniversary of his professional recording career”. I’m sure the symphony in your city will be hosting something special for Valentine’s Day. Dress up in your favorite little red dress or accentuate your LBD with a heart pendant, pin or dangly earrings.
Botanical Gardens- Every large city has a Botanical Garden so check out the activities there or find a special garden in your area. In Atlanta, there is “Celebrate Valentine’s in the Gardens: Decades of Love.”
“Bring your sweetheart to see the gorgeous orchid display and enjoy an array of savory bites and desserts from Atlanta’s top chefs. Visitors will be transported through eighty years of romance with themed music, food and decor throughout the Garden. . . Dress to impress for the decade of your choice!”
Favorite Restaurant- Make reservations way in advance for Valentine’s Day or select another, less popular evening to go out and celebrate love! My husband and I frequent an Italian restaurant, where we had our first date. We enjoy the delicious food, but most of all the live piano music and dancing close on the tiny dance floor. I always love wearing a special outfit there. Also, you might consider inviting another couple to share a catered dinner or one prepared together in your home. Dressing up and dining by candlelight with background music is a great way to rekindle friendships or spark romance.
Hiking- For the health-conscious adventurers hiking stimulates your hearts to appreciate natural beauty. This could be a day trip or an overnight adventure at a lodge in a state park. Holding hands along a trail especially to a waterfall can be romantic; break out a picnic that includes wine and cheese! Dress in fashionable layers to accommodate a change in temperature.
Theater- Every city and most small towns have a community theater; so, check the calendar to see the upcoming productions. The most famous theater and architectural treasure in Atlanta is the “Fabulous Fox”. In Atlanta, you can treat your date to the Broadway revival of Hello Dolly, winner of four Tony Awards. If you’re lucky enough to score a ticket, you’ll be seeing something historic.” Wear a WOW dress!
Ski Adventure, Cross Country or Downhill– Depending on your location, this could be a day trip or a weekend getaway. There’s something exhilarating about heading down your favorite slope on a crisp day! I have only tried skiing once in my life, when I realized that I enjoyed the fireplace and surroundings more. Whether you are on the slopes or a ski bunny, dress for warmth and comfort in a cool outfit!
Concert- Surrounding yourself with beautiful music is the way to your heart this Valentine’s Day! Andrea Bocelli will treat his Atlanta fans to a unique holiday repertoire, combining the most beloved arias, crossover hits, special love songs and new music off his latest album, Cinema. My husband surprised me with tickets to this concert four years ago! I remember wearing an elegant dress for this lovely, romantic evening!
Wine tasting– This is a wonderful way for wine lovers to celebrate! Once again there are a variety of ways to sample the fruit of the vine depending on your location. If you are not in a wine growing region, many restaurants offer wine tastings, flights, and even dinners with wine pairings. If you’re fortunate to be in a wine region, schedule a wine tour for the day or a weekend. I fell in love with Napa and Sonoma as well as the Seattle and Portland areas! There are numerous wineries just north of Atlanta; Chateau Elan has overnight accommodations, too.
Dancing– Dancing is the best way to touch each other without exhibiting a public display of affection; most ladies welcome an invitation to dance. My husband and I met at a dance over 6 years ago. I’ll always remember our first dance, an East Coast Swing. I was impressed with his musicality and ability to lead without jerking or pulling my arms off! We realized that both of us had just started learning ballroom dancing. He has been my partner ever since our first dance! We are still taking lessons and frequent Club201 in Alpharetta, with the best dance floor. Wear an outfit that shows off your figure; consider a dress or skirt that swirls with your turns and spins!
This list only begins to explore opportunities to share your shine and enhance romance. Do you have another activity or event to share? Which one or ones do you find appealing? How are you spending this Valentine’s Day?
