I have been on a shopping spree for my approaching cruise around the British Isles with stops at Dover, St. Helier, Milford Haven, Dublin, Edinburgh and finishing with several nights in London. Even though it will remain quite hot and humid in Atlanta, the temperatures are quite a bit cooler in these locations; that being said I was searching for fall fashions. One important overall difference this season is modesty dressing that actually covers up the body with layering, colored tights, longer hems and higher necklines.
Here are the five trends that will dominate the fall fashion scene:
- All over prints- Colorful florals are scattered onto coats, dresses, pants, and accessories to brighten up our gloomy days ahead. Floral prints come in a wide selection of themes including romantic, bohemian, and vintage and were also paired with other prints. I chose the floral classic wrap dress by Calvin Klein. Animal prints still pervade the fashion scene.
- Check & Tweeds – Plaids, Prince of Wales heritage or tartan in so many forms are key to looking stylish this season. The tweed trends appear in the oversized 80’s inspired overcoats. I selected a pair of black and white Prince of Wales slacks; so fitting for my trip.
- Belted, tied, or bow at the waist- This season the star of your outfit is the belt. Belt your dress, coat, suit, or anything to be stylish. The chain belt has also made a comeback. Dresses are accented with sashes or tie at the waist. My classic wrap dress has a cloth belt that I tie on the side.
- Wild West – The Western influence is evident with prairie dresses, Western shirts and skirts, and chic neckerchiefs. It’s time to break out your cowboy boots and kick up your heels to jumpstart this season.
- Leather- Leather is the dominant fabric this season from skirts, pants, and overcoats, not only in black but a wide array of colors.
The new fall/winter 2018 colors are dazzling with a richness expected from fall, but unexpected shades are changing the perception for fall and winter looks. The dismal days of fall/winter will be brightened by futuristic metallics and shockingly blaring neons! Also, rich reds rule – from vibrant poppy to a mellow rose. Black remains the standard staple that always stays in style and is universally flattering. My entire travel wardrobe will focus on black with pops of color. This season black exists in a variety of materials, textures, and finishes. Everything – feathers, lace, fur, etc. is done in layers of black on black for a stunning, chic look.
