Your appearance could be keeping you broke.

Today many Americans are more concerned about comfort and have taken business casual to the extreme, which just does not project professionalism. I believe that a professional appearance can also be comfortable, and I help my clients achieve both. If you want to attract greater success and wealth, then I believe dressing accordingly will help you achieve that goal.

The key to making more money in 2023 is in how you dress and present yourself to the world. One of my favorite quotes is by Edith Head, “You can have anything in life you want if you dress for it.” One of my coaches emphasized this concept, ” If you don’t look like you have money, no one will spend money with you.”

How can you dress like a millionaire on a budget?

First, messy will never denote wealth so avoid wearing items that are not in perfect condition.  A polished appearance looks pricey, even when the pieces are not.  Next, invest in a few classic items with clean lines to create an array of looks that shout money. Finally, keep your hair, makeup, and nails neat and well groomed.

Here’s a guideline to create that million-dollar look:

• Make your wardrobe appear expensive by wearing neutrals; either pastels such as cream, light gray, light beige, or dark neutrals such as black, navy, charcoal, and white.
• A monochrome outfit is a powerful way to create a more upscale and chicer style. Many celebrities, understand and use this concept all the time. The Queen was the epitome of monochromatic style.
• Designer or fine leather handbags easily identify you as upscale.
• High quality shoes instantly elevate your appearance.
• Invest in well-tailored clothes which always appear more expensive.
• Select luxurious fabrics such as silk and cashmere to look more refined and sophisticated.
• Invest in silver, platinum, or gold jewelry.  Good quality costume jewelry is also acceptable to achieve a sophisticated look.
• Wearing some makeup to enhance your features lets others know you care about the image you project. In a study amongst women, the ones who wore makeup were 69% more likely to earn more than women who didn’t wear makeup.
• Wear tortoiseshell eyewear for that ‘Jackie O’ look.
• Your scent can be as wealthy as your appearance, just leave a slight hint behind.

The media is constantly forecasting doom and gloom, but you can design the life you want.  “Don’t wait for opportunity, create it” is a powerful quote by George Bernard Shaw. The message is critical for business leaders who will succeed through good and bad times, the bull runs and the recessions. Sometime revenues may come easily, but other times you may need to create it. Don’t overlook the power of dressing well.
